Well for me, I'm going into my last year of college! :O That's insane, because well I'm only going to be 19, and I'll be the first out of any of my friends. I start school in 2 days, so it will be Wednesday September 7th. At most school, everyone has moved into there rez's by now, and the festivities for Frosh Week have begun today. Not at my school! haha Everyone starts moving into Rez today, and the school I attend does have a Frosh Week, but its not as big of a deal as most Universities. Ex: Western, Brock, and Queens. Now if you were to attend one the 3 mentioned, there's parties, concerts, carnivals, bbq, football games, and more! So if you like to bring it hard during your first week, or returning week back to school, attend one of these.
But it's not just about the parties......that's right people, your parents did not just spend thousands of dollars for you to just go party! Your there to get an education! So when you unpack, make yourself organize because if your not...well these will be the longest 2,3,4,5...years of well ever! Below is an excellent example of what a good organized room looks like and what a messy room looks like :P
Wasn't that nice??? lol Personally I prefer to be organized and if I lived in a dorm my room would be clean, despite the fact my room at home constantly looks like the one above lol :P
Second, once you get all settled in and said your goodbyes to your parents, its time to go meet some people...you don't want to be known as the hermit on your floor or rez the rest of the year. Meet your roommate (if you have one), meet your neighbours and meet your floor dean ( if you have one....idk what there called) This is also a great way to meet new friends, maybe even find some people from your classes, so then its not as awkward the first day of classes. Now since I don't live in rez and never have, I never had this opportunity....but If I were too this is what I would do!
And Lastly, don't be nervous! This will only trigger fear, and you'll be distant from others. But those nerves aside! What do you have to loose? No one knows you and you don't know anyone...its like the first day of high school all over again...Remember those nerves on the first day, now remember back to the last day of gr.12 looking back, was there anything to be worried about? NOPE! It was fun, and easy, and well you made it to the 3rd chapter in life so you did make it out alive! haha So go out there and be yourself! If your the person that likes to be by themselves and do nothing, don't go and try to be that big football star your not, its just not going to work. I bet by the end of the first week you will find new friends and by the end of the first month you will find the group of people you belong with. If only I had known this sooner! I did find the right group of people in the end, but the first 2 months was and interesting adventure for me. Well you see I have many groups of friends, I have a friend in most studies at the school I go to, so I have those friends that like to go out and party on the weekends, and I also have those friends where there types of parties that include CPP (chips, pop and parents) These are the types of parties I enjoy haha. I did learn this the hard way I guess you would put it. Back in September of 2010, I used to hang out with people in the CPET course, and I'm in ESTH...well your probably wondering why? Well my bf at the time was and is in the course. Now if you know me I'm not the first person to jump up at the idea of partying till I cant remember the night before. Its just not the type of thing I enjoy. But to fit in, I would go to those types of parties with him and well I was not comfortable with well a bunch of guys I kinda knew drinking and smoking around me. Also one of my friends, is friends with a few guys on the basketball team. So she was invited to the basketball team party, and she invited me...well lets just say that was one of the worst nights of my life! The house was covered in beer from the walls to the floor, everything reeked, you go outside and were covered in the smell of smoke, and you go inside and your hit on some guy you've never met in your life! By the end of the night, the cops were called, I was the one taking care of my friend who was drunk out of her mind, a fight almost broke out and it was about 2 am before I got home....That is NOT where I belong! That is for sure and I am so thankful I don't party, and well him and I didn't last long. Oh well I found my prince and I now know where I belong!
Have fun, do your homework, make friends that will last a life time and don't forget to visit home once in awhile! These will be some of the best years of your life! Hope you enjoy them like I am! :)
